Chilly weather? Yes please! Great views and running along beautiful coastline? Yes please! 10k on a fast and flat route? Yes please! The Helsinki10 is this and much more!
New event in the city
The Helsinki10 run was held for the very first time in 2018 and the next race will take place on 27th of April 2019! The race was established to meet the growing demand for a 10k race open for everyone – beginners, professionals, fun-runners, men and women – right in the beginning of the spring season, when the weather in Finland is comfortable enough for running and the streets are free from ice and snow.
The Helsinki10 in 2018
The starting line at the Helsinki10 was on the busy and famous Esplanadi, which is the path that leads from the main road to the central market square in Helsinki.
At the beginning of the race the weather was a bit foggy and chilly, but it was obvious that the runners wanted to explore this new event including the flat course waiting ahead! As the race started at 1 pm, the weather slowly improved. During the event, the runners enjoyed great music, plenty of cheering and an interesting samba exhibition along the course. As the race progressed, the weather continued to improve until the sun shone brightly at that finish line. At the end there were many happy faces enjoying delicious “Vappu-munkki” with a beautiful blue-and-white -medal hanging on their neck as a reward!
Fast and beautiful course
The course at the Helsinki10 includes the beautiful coastline of Helsinki city and the most ideal running paths; Esplanadi, Kaivopuisto, Eira, Baana. What more could one even need? The flat course makes it quite possible to run a good time. What better way to start the running season than at the Helsinki10?
Vappu in Finland
The timing of the race is a great opportunity for foreign runners to visit Finland as we celebrate Vappu on 30th of April until the 1st of May, the week after the Helsinki10. Vappu is a big “carnival” all over Finland. On no other day of the year is Helsinki be so crowded. Truly, every inch of green space seems to be occupied by casually chatting happy faces. This is something you really need to experience!
We are already looking forward to the next Helsinki10 and want to welcome you all to join this great event in Helsinki!
